Choose around the work you still need to do
Clyps fits the step between a finished recording and a set of short videos. Upload your source file, review suggested passages, adjust the opening and ending, and add captions. You can change the frame and preview the edit before exporting an MP4.
Descript covers a broader production job. Its product includes recording, transcript-based editing, audio cleanup, and clip creation. If you still need to assemble or repair the full episode, those tools may be the reason to keep it.
You can also use both. Finish the episode in Descript, export the recording, then use Clyps to prepare social excerpts. That only makes sense if the extra step improves your editing process. Test it with a real episode first.

A caption correction changes what the viewer reads. It does not replace the words in the audio. If replacing recorded speech or cleaning up a difficult recording is central to your work, compare Descript's audio tools before moving that job.
Compare source allowance and finished output
Clyps counts source minutes, finished video minutes, and exports separately. Creator is $19 monthly or $190 annually, with 300 source minutes, 120 finished minutes, and 60 exports each month. Pro is $39 monthly or $390 annually, with 900 source minutes, 360 finished minutes, and 180 exports. Annual plans replenish these allowances monthly.
For example, four 30-minute interviews use 120 source minutes. If you export five one-minute clips from each interview, the deliverables total 20 finished minutes and 20 exports. That workload fits the published Clyps Creator allowances. Additional exports and new uploads also count toward their respective limits.
Descript lists media hours and AI credits as separate allowances. Hobbyist includes 10 media hours and 400 AI credits per month; Creator lists 30 media hours and 800 AI credits. Those units are different from finished Clyps minutes and exports. Choose from the work you actually perform, rather than treating an AI credit as a clip.
The Clyps Free plan includes 30 source minutes, 10 finished minutes, and three exports per month. Free exports carry a Clyps watermark and free media expires after seven days. Paid exports remove the Clyps watermark. See all current Clyps plan limits.
Use one recording to make the decision
Take a 15-minute section of a real interview. Choose a passage with a guest name, a speaker change, and an answer that needs the question for context. Write down the short you want before either tool suggests one.
Check whether the opening identifies the subject. Correct the name in the captions. Watch the speaker change in vertical format. Extend the ending if the automatic cut removes a qualification. Download the result and watch it at phone size with sound on and off.
Record the minutes you spend fixing each clip. A tool that produces more suggestions is only useful if enough of those suggestions become videos you would publish. Keep your existing editing setup until the replacement has passed that test.

- Can Clyps replace Descript for a whole podcast?
- Clyps prepares short clips from recorded video. Descript also covers recording and full-episode editing. If you use those parts of Descript, keep an episode editor and evaluate Clyps for the social clips.
- Can I move a Descript project into Clyps?
- Export your recording as a video file, then upload that file to Clyps. Clyps does not import a Descript editing project or preserve its individual tracks and edit history.
